Applications of Thermal and Cold Insulation in Industrial Factories

In this article, Centrotec Co., Ltd. presents the use of removable thermal and cold insulation in industrial factories. These are commonly referred to as Thermal Insulation Jackets or Removable Insulation Jackets (RIJ) in English, and often called "valve covers" in Thai. In industrial settings, these insulation jackets are used to cover energy sources in various areas, such as:

  • Insulation for chemical heaters and boilers

  • Insulation for turbines or heat-generating machinery

  • Insulation for steam or gas pressure control valves

  • Insulation for gas pipelines, both inside and outside factories

  • Insulation for exhaust pipes on ships, vehicles, and refineries

  • Insulation for rubber curing machines in tire manufacturing plants

Centrotec Co., Ltd. manufactures these thermal and cold insulation jackets by tailoring them to specific sizes and using materials that can withstand the required temperatures. The jackets are designed based on the temperature of the machinery, valves, or pipes they will cover. From our experience working with a variety of industrial clients, we have summarized several key benefits of using removable insulation jackets:

  • Fast Installation – The insulation jackets are pre-measured, cut, and sewn to fit before being installed on-site, allowing for quick installation.

  • Cost-effective Maintenance – Removable jackets can be taken off and reinstalled after maintenance without damage, unlike cladding insulation, which is harder to reinstall and may require additional costs to hire contractors to replace it after repairs. This is especially beneficial for machinery or valves that require frequent maintenance.

  • Energy Conservation – The jackets help retain the temperature of the machinery or pipes they cover, reducing heat or cold loss in industrial processes, such as plastic injection molding, plastic pellet melting, or ovens, thereby lowering electricity costs.

  • Safety – The surface of removable insulation jackets is typically made from silicone-coated fabric, which is safer for workers to touch compared to cladding insulation, where the outer surface is often aluminum, which conducts heat more efficiently and can pose a burn risk.

  • Improved Working Conditions – Removable insulation jackets reduce the surface temperature of the machinery or pipes they cover, helping to lower the overall temperature in the workspace, thus improving the working environment for employees.

  • Easy Maintenance – Workers can easily remove the insulation jackets to clean or inspect the machinery or valves without needing special tools, thanks to the use of Velcro straps for easy removal.

  • Custom Tailoring – These jackets are tailored to fit tightly around heat-generating parts, effectively reducing the amount of heat emitted from the machinery or pipes.

In conclusion, choosing removable thermal and cold insulation jackets is an excellent option for industrial factories looking to improve energy efficiency, safety, and ease of maintenance.
